Punch cards on wallet passes

A punch card gives customers a reason to come back: they can see how close they are to the next reward every time they open their wallet. On a Toki wallet pass, the body of the card can show a row or two of stamps that fill in as the customer earns. You choose what the stamps track — progress in a challenge, or a store credit balance — and Toki keeps the card current on Apple Wallet and Google Wallet.

How punch cards work

The punch card takes the place of the Background Image in the body of the card. Every stamp is drawn from an image you upload. Stamps the customer has earned show in full color; stamps still to earn show faded, so the customer can see both what they have and what is left.

Progress updates on its own. When a customer completes a challenge activity or their balance grows, the pass in their wallet updates to match — you do not need to do anything.

Choose a stamps type

  1. Open Wallet Passes. Click New for a new pass, or Edit on an existing one.
  2. In Card Body, pick a Stamps Type.
Stamps TypeWhat the card shows
None (use background image)No stamps. The body shows your Background Image.
ChallengeOne stamp for each completion a challenge asks for. Stamps fill in as the customer completes the challenge's activities.
BalanceStamps that represent a store credit balance, for example one stamp for every 200 points.

The fields below Stamps Type change with your choice, and so does the label on the image upload. Passes that already had a challenge selected open with Stamps Type set to Challenge.

Switching Stamps Type clears the settings of the type you leave. If you switch back later, set them again.

Track a challenge

A challenge is a series of activities a customer completes in a set period, such as making three purchases in a month. Challenge stamps show how far along the customer is.

  1. Set Stamps Type to Challenge.
  2. In Challenge, pick the challenge to track. Start typing to search.
  3. Enter Stamps Per Row (1 to 10). This field appears once a challenge is selected. Leave it empty and Toki fits up to 5 stamps per row.
  4. Under Default Punch Image (used if activity has no icon), upload an image.
  5. Click Save in the bar at the top.

Each stamp uses the icon of the activity it belongs to. If an activity has no icon, the stamp uses your Default Punch Image instead. Upload one so every stamp has an image, whatever the activity.

Track a balance

Balance stamps turn points into a visual: every so many points earns one stamp. Customers see their balance fill up the card without reading a number.

  1. Set Stamps Type to Balance.
  2. In Balance, pick the store credit to track.
  3. Set Points Per Stamp, Maximum Stamps, and Stamps Per Row (see the table below).
  4. Under Stamp Image, upload the image to use as the stamp.
  5. Click Save in the bar at the top.
SettingWhat it does
BalanceThe store credit the stamps represent. If you run more than one store credit, pick the one that matters for this pass.
Points Per StampHow many points equal one stamp. With 200 points per stamp, a customer holding 600 points sees three stamps filled. Minimum 1. New passes start at 100.
Maximum StampsHow many stamps the card shows in total, from 1 to 10. New passes start at 10.
Stamps Per RowHow many stamps sit in one row, from 1 to 10. With 10 stamps and 5 per row, the card shows two rows of 5. Leave it empty and Toki fits up to 5 stamps per row.

The Stamp Image is what the stamps are made of — the card shows it in full color for earned stamps and faded for the rest, on top of your Background Color. Toki shrinks the image to fit each stamp without cropping it, so a simple, icon-style image works well. Stamps appear only once a Stamp Image is uploaded.

Check the preview

After you save, the preview on the right shows a sample punch card with about half the stamps filled in. Use it to check that the stamps stand out against your Background Color and that the rows fit the card. Switch between the Apple and Google tabs to see the card in each wallet.

Turn the punch card off

Set Stamps Type to None (use background image) and upload a Background Image if the card needs one. Click Save in the bar at the top, and Toki updates the pass on every customer's phone.
