Membership tiers
Last updated
Membership tiers are customer levels that grant rewards. A customer who meets a tier's conditions unlocks its rewards, and the tier's card shows up in their wallet. Use tiers to give your VIP customers special perks — better rewards for your most loyal shoppers.
Toki supports two kinds of memberships: Membership (a free tier, covered here) and Paid Membership (based on recurring payments). Paid Memberships are part of our paid plans — open Billing anytime to upgrade.
Create a membership tier
- Open Loyalty in the left navigation.
- Scroll to the VIP Tiers section and click Add new tier.
- On the Create membership page, choose Membership.
- Fill in the tier's details (see below), then click Save.
New tiers start as drafts unless you set them to Active, so you can build them at your own pace.
Tier settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | The name of the membership. |
| Membership Card | The card image shown in the customer's wallet. Recommended size: 272 x 155 px. |
| Conditions | What a customer must meet to unlock this tier. |
| Rewards | The rewards members of this tier receive. Add at least one with Add Reward. |
| Status | Active (live for customers) or Draft (hidden while you work on it). |
| Tracking: tags | Tags added to the customer's profile in Shopify when they're assigned this membership. Separate multiple tags with commas. |
| Visibility Settings | Who can see this membership (see below). |
| Is Stackable | When enabled, this membership's rewards stack with rewards from other memberships. |
A tier needs a name and at least one reward before it can be saved.
Visibility Settings
| Option | Who sees the membership |
|---|---|
| All users | Everyone. |
| Only users with the membership can see it | Only customers who hold this membership. |
| Segments | Only customers in the segments you select. A customer must be in at least one selected segment to see it. |
| No one | Hidden from everyone. |
Is Stackable
When a customer holds several memberships, Is Stackable decides whose rewards show up in their wallet. A membership with the switch on always shows its rewards next to the others. Among memberships with the switch off, only the one that sits furthest down your membership order shows its rewards; the others appear without rewards. Paid memberships always count as non-stackable.
Save your changes
When you edit a tier, a save bar appears at the top of the page. Click Save to apply your changes or discard them to go back to the last saved version. Before saving, Toki also checks that no one else on your team updated the same membership while you had it open, so nobody's work gets overwritten.
Manage your memberships
The Memberships page lists all of your memberships — free and paid — with each one's name, status, condition, and rewards. Once you have more than one tier, open Loyalty, click Manage rewards in the VIP Tiers section, and then click the back arrow at the top of the Manage rewards page to reach it.
- Switch between the All, Active, and Draft tabs, or search by name.
- Click a membership to open its editor.
- Click Create membership to add a new one.
You can also manage tiers directly from the VIP Tiers section on the Loyalty page: click a tier to edit it, or drag tiers to reorder them.
Reorder tiers
- On the Memberships page, click Reorder.
- Drag and drop memberships into the order you want. The new order is saved as soon as you drop a tier.
The order is your tier ladder: the entry tier at the top, and each tier below it one step up. It decides:
- which tier the wallet shows a customer as their next goal: the one right after the last tier they already hold;
- which membership the Members list shows in its Membership column: the one that comes last in the order among the memberships the customer holds;
- which card the wallet shows: of the memberships a customer holds and can see, the last one in the order that has a Membership Card image. A membership without an image is skipped, and when none of them has one, the wallet shows its default card (see Design editor);
- which non-stackable membership shows its rewards when a customer holds several (see Is Stackable above);
- the order memberships are listed in the wallet and on the Loyalty page.
Delete a membership
- Open the membership you want to remove.
- Click Delete.
- Confirm in the dialog.
Deleting a membership can't be undone, so double-check before you confirm.
Guided setup
When you're setting up Toki, the onboarding wizard walks you through creating your first membership in four steps: customize the view, add rewards, set the unlock conditions, and choose the status. It uses the same settings described above, and you can edit everything later.
