Campaign audience
Every campaign has an audience: the customers who receive its message. You set the audience with the Segment field on the campaign page. Pick a segment to reach a specific group, or leave the field empty to reach everyone in your loyalty program.
Choose the audience
- Click Campaigns in the left navigation, then open a campaign or click Create campaign.
- Under Basic Information, find the Segment field. It shows All users until you pick a segment.
- Type to search your segments by name and pick one. A campaign targets one segment.
- To send to everyone instead, clear the field.
- Click Save.
The help text under the field sums it up: "Select audience segment to send notification to. If you don't select any segment, the notification will be sent to all users."
| Segment field | Who receives the campaign | Campaigns list shows |
|---|---|---|
| Empty (All users) | Every customer in your loyalty program. | All customers in the Segment column |
| A segment | Only the customers in that segment. | Yes in the Segment column |
Segments are built and managed on the Segments page. See Segments to create one, and Segment conditions for the rules you can use. To reach two groups with one campaign, build a single segment whose conditions cover both, or create a second campaign.
When Toki checks the audience
Toki uses the segment's current member list, the same customers you see when you open the segment on the Segments page. When that list is checked depends on the campaign type.
Automatically campaigns
Toki checks the audience one customer at a time, at the moment the customer does the action you picked under When to send. If the customer is in the segment right then, they get the message. If not, that action doesn't send anything to them. A customer who joins the segment later receives the message the next time they do the action.
For example, a Points Earned campaign targeting a "VIP" segment only messages VIP customers when they earn points. Everyone else earns their points as usual, without a message from this campaign.
On Schedule campaigns
At each Scheduled date & time, Toki sends the message to everyone in the segment at that time, or to every customer in your loyalty program if the field is empty. Each scheduled send is its own snapshot: customers who join the segment afterwards get the message at the next scheduled send, if there is one.
If you changed a segment's conditions and want its member list fresh before a send, open the segment and click Reevaluate Segment. See Segments for details.
Test sends go to the customers you pick
When you click Test on a campaign and choose customers in Users, Toki sends the test to exactly those customers, whether or not they are in the segment. This lets you check the message on your own account, for example, without adding yourself to the audience first. See Campaigns for the test steps.
If a segment is no longer available
If a campaign points to a segment that has since been deleted, the Segment field shows Segment was removed with the old segment's identifier. Pick another segment or clear the field to send to all customers, then click Save.
