Test a campaign

Before a campaign reaches your customers, you can send it to a handful of people you choose: yourself, a colleague, a friendly regular. The Test button sends whatever is in the campaign form right now, so you can check the wording and confirm it arrives while the campaign is still a Draft. Nothing about the campaign itself changes when you test it.

Send a test

  1. Click Campaigns in the left navigation, then open a campaign or click Create campaign.
  2. Under Notification Settings, turn on the channels you want to check and fill in their text.
  3. Click Test at the top of the page. The Test Campaign window opens.
  4. In Users, type an email address. Toki lists up to 10 matching customers; click one to select it. Type another address to add more people.
  5. Look over Notification Preview to make sure the text reads the way you want.
  6. Click Send Test. The button becomes available once you've selected at least one customer.

Toki sends the message to the selected customers right away and shows "Test campaign sent successfully!" A Test Result box also appears in the window with the details of the send.

The window stays open after a send, so you can pick different customers and send again. To change the text, click Cancel, edit the campaign, and click Test again.

Because a test uses the form as it is, remember to click Save afterward if you want to keep your edits.

Placeholders such as {{amount}} go out exactly as typed in a test send, since there is no customer action behind a test. They fill in with each customer's real values on real sends. See Message placeholders and starter text.

Read the preview

Notification Preview shows one block for each channel you turned on. Channels that are off don't appear.

BlockLines shownComes from
Push NotificationHeader: and Content:Content is your Push notification content.
Email NotificationSubject: and Message:Email subject and Email message.
Wallet NotificationTitle: and Body:Wallet notification title and Wallet notification body.

If a field is empty, the preview says so, for example "No content" or "No subject". Fill in the field before you send, because Toki asks for it when the test runs.

Read the result

After you click Send Test, the Test Result box tells you how the send went. For push, it reports Apple Wallet and Google Wallet separately.

Toki runs the channels in order: push notification, then wallet notification, then email. If a channel needs attention, Toki stops there and shows you what to fill in. Fix it and click Send Test again to send everything.

MessageWhat to do
"No content found for push"Fill in Push notification content.
"No devices found for selected users"None of the selected customers has your wallet pass in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Pick a customer who does, or turn off push for this test.
"No title found for wallet"Fill in Wallet notification title.
"No body found for wallet"Fill in Wallet notification body.
"No subject found for email"Fill in Email subject.
"No message found for email"Fill in Email message.

Pick good test customers

Each channel reaches customers in its own way, so pick test customers who can receive what you're checking.

  • Push notification: choose a customer who has added your wallet pass to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
  • Email: choose a customer with an email address on file.
  • Wallet notification: every selected customer receives it.

Adding your own customer account is the quickest way to see the message exactly as your customers will.
