Campaigns

A campaign is a message Toki sends to your customers: a push notification to their wallet pass, an email, a wallet notification, or any mix of the three. A campaign sends either Automatically, when a customer does something in your loyalty program (earns points, unlocks a membership, refers a friend), or On Schedule, at dates and times you pick. This article covers the Campaigns page and the life of a campaign: create it, keep it as a draft, set it live, test it, and delete it.

Open the Campaigns page

  1. In the Toki app, click Campaigns in the left navigation.
  2. Use the tabs to filter the list: All, Automatically, or On Schedule.
  3. Click a campaign to open it.

The list shows 20 campaigns per page, newest first. Use the arrows below the table to move between pages. If you have no campaigns yet, the page shows a Create campaign button instead of the table.

ColumnWhat it shows
NameThe campaign's name.
StatusActive (green) or Draft. Only active campaigns send.
TypeAutomatically or On Schedule.
ActionFor Automatically campaigns, the customer action that triggers it, such as Points Earned. On Schedule campaigns show a dash.
CreatedThe date and time the campaign was created.
SegmentYes if the campaign targets a segment, or All customers if it goes to everyone.
Pushes sentHow many push notifications this campaign has sent so far.

Two types of campaign

TypeWhen it sends
AutomaticallyEvery time a customer does the action you pick under When to send, for example Account Created, Points Earned, Membership Unlocked, or Referred a Friend. Toki sends the message to that customer right after the action happens.
On ScheduleAt the dates and times you add under Scheduling. Each scheduled send goes to everyone in the campaign's audience at once. You can add several sends to one campaign.

You choose the type in the Campaign type field. New campaigns start as Automatically.

Create a campaign

  1. On the Campaigns page, click Create campaign.

  2. Under Basic Information, enter a Campaign name (at least 2 characters) and pick a Campaign type.

  3. In Segment, pick a segment to send only to those customers. Leave it empty to send to all customers.

  4. Under Notification Settings, turn on each channel you want to use and fill in its text:

    • Enable push notifications, then write the Push notification content.
    • Enable email notifications, then write the Email subject and Email message.
    • Enable wallet notifications, then write the Wallet notification title and Wallet notification body.

Every channel you turn on needs its text filled in before you can save.

  5. On the right, set when the campaign sends:

    • Automatically campaigns: pick the customer action under Trigger Action in the When to send field. When you pick an action, Toki fills in a suggested campaign name and starter text for each channel if those fields are still empty. Edit them as you like.
    • On Schedule campaigns: under Scheduling, click Add execution and set a Scheduled date & time for each send.
  6. Leave Status as Draft until you're ready, or set it to Active to go live when you save.

  7. Click Save in the bar at the top of the page.

Toki confirms with "Campaign created" and opens the saved campaign so you can keep editing. If a required field is empty, Toki shows a "Please fix: …" message that tells you which field to complete.

When you edit a campaign, a save bar appears at the top as soon as you change something. Click Save to keep your changes or Discard to undo them. If you try to leave the page with unsaved changes, Toki asks you to confirm first.

Draft and Active

Every campaign has a Status: Draft or Active. New campaigns start as Draft, so you can build and test them without sending anything to customers. The badge next to the campaign's name shows its current status.

StatusWhat happens
DraftNothing is sent. Automatic campaigns ignore customer actions, and scheduled sends wait. The Scheduling section reminds you: "Scheduling will be activated once the campaign status is set to Active."
ActiveThe campaign is live. Automatic campaigns send each time the trigger happens. Scheduled sends are queued for their dates.

To change the status, open the campaign, pick Active or Draft in the Status box, and click Save.

If you switch an On Schedule campaign from Active back to Draft, its scheduled sends that haven't gone out yet are marked Canceled. When you set the campaign back to Active, click Add execution to schedule a new send.

Test a campaign

You can send a campaign to a few chosen customers before it goes live. Test sends work while the campaign is still a Draft, and you don't need to save first. Toki uses whatever is currently in the form.

  1. Open the campaign and click Test.
  2. In Users, type an email address to find a customer, and select one or more.
  3. Check the Notification Preview. It shows the text for each channel you turned on.
  4. Click Send Test.

The selected customers receive the campaign right away, and a Test Result appears in the window. Push notifications reach customers who have added your wallet pass to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, so pick a test customer who has one when you test push.

Delete a campaign

  1. Open the campaign and click Delete.
  2. To also clear the messages this campaign already created, check Also delete all notifications associated with this campaign. This removes the wallet notifications the campaign sent to customers and cancels any push notifications still waiting to go out. Leave it unchecked to keep them.
  3. Click Delete to confirm.

The campaign disappears from the list. As the confirmation window says, this action cannot be undone.
