Customize translations

Toki comes with ready-made text for everything your customers see in Toki's storefront modules — buttons, labels, and messages — in every supported language. The Translations page lets you change any of that wording to match your brand's voice, one language at a time. You can also add text entries of your own.

Open the Translations page

1. Open Design.
2. In the language card at the top of the Design Settings page, click Customize translations.

The Translations page opens. Click Design at the top of the page to go back.

How the table works

Every text Toki can show is one row in the table.

Texts longer than three lines are shortened in the table. Hover over a text to see all of it.

Find a text

Type in the search field at the top of the table. Toki shows only the rows whose key or text contains what you typed, in any language — including languages whose columns are hidden. The quickest way to find a text is to search for the exact wording you see on your storefront.

Change a text

1. Find the row you want to change.
2. In the column for the language you want, click the pencil icon. The cell turns into a text box.
3. Type your new text.
4. Click the check icon to close the text box.
5. Click Save in the bar at the top of the page.

Two things to keep in mind when you rewrite a text:

• Some texts contain placeholders in double curly braces, such as {{count}} or {{amount}}. Toki fills them in with the real value when the text is shown, for example a number or a price. Keep them in your version, exactly as written.
• Some texts come in pairs whose keys end in _one and _other, for example haveCoupons_one and haveCoupons_other. Toki uses the _one text for a single item and the _other text for any other number. Change both so they match.

Choose which languages you see

By default, the table shows the columns for English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian. To work with other languages:

1. Click Languages at the top of the table.
2. Check the languages you want to see, and uncheck the ones you don't. Languages are listed by their two-letter code, for example PL for Polish.

This only changes which columns are displayed. Hiding a language keeps every text you saved for it. Toki remembers your choice for this store in the browser you're using, so it applies to you only. It's the same choice as the Languages button in the Page-based Language Settings section on the Design page: change it in one place and it applies to both.

Add your own text entry

1. Click Add new translation.
2. In Translation key, enter a name for the entry, for example myNewKey. Use a name that isn't already in the Key column.
3. Under Translations, enter the text for each language. The dialog shows one field for every language column you have showing. You can fill in other languages later in the table, after you show their columns.
4. Click Add. The new row appears at the bottom of the table.
5. Click Save.

Remove an entry you added

1. Find the row in the table.
2. In the Action column, click the trash icon.
3. Click Save.

The delete button appears only on entries you added yourself. Toki's built-in texts always stay in the table — change their wording instead.

Save or discard changes

As soon as you change, add, or remove a text, a bar appears at the top of the page. Your storefront keeps showing the previous wording until you save.

• Click Save to apply all your changes. Toki confirms with the message Saved. You can also press Ctrl+S (Windows) or Cmd+S (Mac).
• Click Discard to go back to the last saved state. This undoes every unsaved edit, including entries you added or removed.
