Product recommendations

Product recommendation rules decide which products Toki suggests to your customers. Each rule stacks one or more strategies: products you pick yourself, your best sellers, or products that are often bought together. Once a rule is active, you show its products in your wallet with a Product Recommendations Block.

The rules list

In the Toki app, open Product Recommendations.
The page is titled Product Recommendations. Every rule is a row in the table. Click a row, or its Edit button, to open the rule.

Column	What it shows
Name	The rule's name.
Status	Active or Draft. Only active rules show products to customers.
Strategies	How many strategies the rule has, for example 2 strategies.
Type	Which strategy types the rule uses.
Action	An Edit button.

Rules are listed with the most recently updated first. Type in the search field to filter by name. The table shows 10 rules per page; use the arrows below it to move between pages.

Before your first rule, the page shows Create your first product recommendation rule with a New Rule button.

Create a rule

Open Product Recommendations and click Create New Rule.
Under Settings, type a Name. This is required.
Leave Status on Draft while you work on the rule. Set it to Active when you're ready for customers to see its products.
Turn on Randomize all strategies if you want the combined list of products shuffled every time it's shown. Leave it off to keep the order described under How results are combined below.
Under Strategies, set up your first strategy. A new rule starts with one Co-Purchase strategy. Change its Type if you want something else.
Click Add Strategy to add more. Each new strategy starts as Co-Purchase.
Click Save, or press Ctrl+S (Windows) or Cmd+S (Mac). Toki confirms with Saved and opens the saved rule.

As soon as you change something, a bar appears at the top of the page with Save and Discard. If you leave the page with unsaved changes, Shopify asks you to save or discard them first.

Reorder and remove strategies

Strategies are numbered #1, #2, and so on. That order matters: it is the order their products appear in (see How results are combined below).

Drag a strategy by the handle on its left to move it.
Click the trash icon on a strategy to remove it.
Click a strategy's heading to fold or unfold its settings.

Switching a strategy's Type resets that strategy's settings to the defaults for the new type.

Strategies

Every strategy has these settings, whatever its type:

Setting	What it does
Type	Manual Selection, Best Selling, or Co-Purchase.
Product Limit	The maximum number of products this strategy adds to the rule. Starts at 5.
Randomize this strategy	Shuffles this strategy's products every time they're shown.

Manual Selection

You choose exactly what to recommend. Good for curated cross-sells and promotions.

Setting	What it does
Select products	Specific products to recommend. Search and pick as many as you like.
Select collections	Collections to recommend from. All products in these collections are eligible.

Products you selected come first, followed by products from your collections. Duplicates are removed and the list is cut to the Product Limit. Collections are read live, so when you add a product to a collection, the strategy picks it up on its own.

A Manual Selection strategy with no products and no collections adds nothing to the rule.

Best Selling

Toki ranks your products by how many times they appear in orders placed during the time window you choose, and recommends the top ones. Each order line counts once, whatever its quantity.

Setting	What it does
Interval	How far back to look. A whole number, for example 30.
Interval Type	The unit for the interval: days, months, or years.

The strategy returns the highest-ranked products, up to the Product Limit.

Co-Purchase

The "customers who bought this also bought" strategy. Toki looks at orders placed during the time window you choose and notes which products were bought together, and how often.

Setting	What it does
Interval	How far back to look for orders. A whole number, for example 30.
Interval Type	The unit for the interval: days, months, or years.

When a signed-in member opens the wallet, Toki starts from the products in that member's own orders and recommends the products most often bought together with them. Products the member has already bought are left out. The list is ranked by how often the products were bought together and cut to the Product Limit.

For visitors who aren't signed in, or members with no orders yet, Toki starts from your store's most recent orders instead.

How results are combined

When a rule is shown, Toki runs its strategies in order, from #1 down, and joins their products into one list:

Each strategy adds up to its own Product Limit. The rule has no limit of its own, so a rule with a Manual Selection strategy limited to 3 and a Best Selling strategy limited to 5 shows up to 8 products.
A product that appears in more than one strategy is shown once, in the position of its first appearance.
Randomize this strategy shuffles a single strategy's products before they join the list. Randomize all strategies shuffles the final, combined list.

How fresh the recommendations are

Best Selling and Co-Purchase are worked out from your order history. Toki refreshes this data daily for every active rule, and each time you save the rule. Manual Selection needs no refresh: your products and collections are read live.

If you run more than one store with Toki, one rule covers all of them, and Best Selling and Co-Purchase are worked out from each store's own orders.

Show recommendations in the wallet

A rule reaches your customers through a Product Recommendations Block in your wallet. Set the rule's Status to Active first: only active rules can be selected in the block.

Open Design and click Edit on the Wallet module.
Find the screen where you want the products, for example Home Screen Blocks, and click Add new item.
Set Block Type to Product Recommendations Block.
In Product Recommendation Rule, pick your rule. The list shows each rule's name with its strategy types.
Set the block's title, layout, and other display options, then Save or Publish.

Customers see each product's image, name, and price. Tapping a product opens its page in your store.

If you later set the rule to Draft or delete it, the block stops showing products until you pick another active rule.

Delete a rule

Open the rule from Product Recommendations.
Click Delete at the top of the page.
In the Delete … ? dialog, click Delete to confirm, or Cancel to keep the rule. Deleting can't be undone.

Toki confirms with Deleted and returns you to the list. The rule disappears from the list and from your wallet.
