Review groups
A review group is a set of reviews with its own rules. Every review belongs to one group, and each group has its own moderation rule, submission options, widget text, eligibility rules, custom questions, product groups, and summary settings. Most stores need just one group. Create more when you want separate sets of reviews, for example one per product line. Each group then shows as its own tab in the reviews widget on your product pages.
Start using Reviews
Reviews is included with Toki's paid plans.
- In the Toki app, click Reviews in the left navigation.
- If you haven't used Reviews yet, the page shows Collect product reviews. Click Start using reviews.
Toki confirms with Reviews are ready to use and creates your first group, named Reviews. It starts with settings that work for most stores: the group is shown on your storefront, every new review waits for your approval, and customers can leave a star rating, pros and cons, and up to 5 photos or videos. You can change any of this later with Edit.
On the free plan, Start using reviews is turned off and the page shows This option is available with one of our paid plans. Click paid plans, or open Billing in the left navigation, to upgrade.
To show reviews on your product pages, add the Reviews module to your storefront. See Design modules.
The Reviews page
Once you have a group, the Reviews page has three buttons at the top: Create group, Import reviews, and Google Shopping.
Group tabs and pending counts
With more than one group, each group is a tab across the top of the page. A tab shows the group name, plus the number of reviews waiting for your approval in parentheses, like Reviews (3). With a single group, you see the group name as a heading and a 3 pending badge instead. Counts refresh every 30 seconds and whenever you come back to the page.
Click a tab to work on that group. The reviews table on the left, the Settings card on the right, and the Edit and Product groups buttons all apply to the selected group. To search, filter, and open reviews in the table, see Browse and filter reviews. To approve or reject them, see Review moderation.
Settings card
The Settings card summarizes the selected group at a glance:
| Row | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Name | The group name. |
| Show group on storefront | On or Off. See "Hide a group from your storefront" below. |
| Moderation | Manual or Auto-approve rating >= 4 (with your minimum rating). |
| Rating, Pros and cons, Media | Whether customers can add these when they submit a review. Media shows Up to 5 (your maximum) when it is allowed. |
| Product summary | Whether approved reviews from this group feed the AI product summary. |
| Google Product Ratings | Whether approved reviews from this group are exported to Google. |
| Incentivized review badge | Whether reviews left in exchange for a reward are marked on the storefront. |
| Included products, Excluded products | How many product rules decide which products can be reviewed, or Off. |
| Blocked customers | How many customer segments can't submit reviews, or Off. |
- Edit opens the group's settings page.
- Product groups opens the product groups of the selected group, which let related products share reviews. See Product groups.
Below the Settings card, the Product summaries card lists the AI summaries generated for your products. See AI review summaries.
Create another group
- On the Reviews page, click Create group.
- Enter a Name. This is the only required field. When you have more than one group, customers see the name as a tab label in the reviews widget.
- Adjust the other settings on the page, or keep the defaults.
- Click Save in the bar that appears at the top of the page.
Toki shows Saved and opens the group's settings page. The group appears as a new tab on the Reviews page and, when it is shown on the storefront, as a new tab in the reviews widget. Click Discard to drop your changes. If you leave the page with unsaved changes, Shopify asks you to confirm first.
Settings on the group page
The group page is split into cards. This article covers Name and Show group on storefront. Each other card has its own article:
| Card | What it controls | Read more |
|---|---|---|
| Settings | Name, and Generate product review summary, which feeds the group's approved reviews into the AI product summary. | AI review summaries |
| Widget | Show group on storefront (see below), Show incentivized review badge, and the Text and labels customers see in the review form. | Review form |
| Submission | Whether customers can add a rating, pros and cons, and photos or videos, and how many files. | Review form |
| Moderation | Whether new reviews wait for your approval or are approved automatically by rating. | Review moderation |
| Eligibility | Which products can be reviewed, and which customer segments can't submit reviews. | Review eligibility |
| Custom questions | Extra questions in the review form, where they appear, and whether answers show up as filters and summaries on the storefront. | Custom review questions |
Two more per-group options live outside the group page:
- Google Product Ratings is turned on per group from the Google Shopping page. See Google Shopping reviews.
- Import reviews brings reviews from another platform into the group you choose. See Import reviews.
Hide a group from your storefront
Show group on storefront is on for every new group. Turn it off to take the group and all its reviews off your storefront while you keep working on them in Toki.
- On the Reviews page, select the group's tab and click Edit.
- In the Widget card, turn off Show group on storefront.
- Click Save.
While a group is hidden:
- The reviews widget doesn't show the group's tab or its reviews, and customers can't submit reviews into it.
- Its reviews stay out of review carousels and AI product summaries.
- Customers aren't prompted in their wallet to review products from this group.
- In Toki, nothing changes. You can still browse, approve, reply to, and import reviews for the group, and the Settings card shows Show group on storefront as Off.
- Review rewards keep working. When you approve a review in a hidden group, it still counts toward a Reviews reward, unless that reward only counts reviews from specific groups (Reward reviews from these groups). See Creating rewards.
- Google Product Ratings works the same way. If the group is turned on for the feed on the Google Shopping page, its approved reviews keep going to Google. Turn it off there to take them out of the feed. See Google Shopping reviews.
Turn the switch back on at any time to show the group again, with all its reviews.
Delete a group
- On the Reviews page, select the group's tab and click Edit.
- Click Delete at the top of the page.
- In the Delete review group? dialog, click Delete.
Toki shows Deleted and returns you to the Reviews page.
If you only want to take a group off your storefront, turn off Show group on storefront instead of deleting it. You keep the reviews and can show them again later.
How groups appear on your storefront
When more than one group is shown on the storefront, the reviews widget shows one tab per group, with the number of reviews that group has for the product. Groups are listed in the order you created them, oldest first, both as tabs on the Reviews page and as tabs in the widget. The first group shown on the storefront is selected when the page loads. A customer's new review goes into the tab they have open. With a single group, there are no tabs. To change the order of your groups, chat with us and we'll set it up with you.
