Google Shopping reviews feed

Google can show star ratings next to your products in Shopping ads and free listings. Toki builds a product ratings feed from your approved reviews and gives you a private feed URL to add in Google Merchant Center. You choose which review groups go into the feed, and the Google Product Ratings page shows you what is left to set up.

Before you start

  • You need at least one review group. The Google Shopping button appears on the Reviews page once a group exists. See Review groups.
  • Ratings must be on in every group you want to export. Only reviews with a star rating go into the feed. See Allow rating in Review form.
  • Google requires at least 50 eligible reviews before it uses a feed. The page counts them for you.
  • You add the feed URL in Google Merchant Center, so you need access to your Merchant Center account.

Open the Google Product Ratings page

  1. In the Toki app, open Reviews.
  2. Click Google Shopping at the top of the page. The Google Product Ratings page opens.

The page has three parts:

  • Feed setup: a short reminder of the steps.
  • Review groups: the groups whose reviews go into the feed.
  • One card per shop with the feed URL, the readiness status, and the checks. If your Toki account has more than one shop, each shop gets its own card and its own feed URL.

Choose which review groups to export

  1. Under Review groups, check each group whose reviews you want in the feed.
  2. Click Save in the save bar. A "Google export groups saved" message confirms the change.

What to know about the list:

  • Approved reviews with ratings from a checked group are included in the feed.
  • A group with ratings turned off shows a Ratings disabled badge and can't be checked. Turn on Allow rating in the group's settings first, then come back and check the group.
  • A checked group that auto-approves by rating shows an Auto-approve by rating badge. The feed still works. See Rating-based auto-approval below.
  • On the Reviews page, each group's settings card shows Google Product Ratings as On or Off, so you can see at a glance which groups are exported.

Generate the feed URL

Each shop card shows the shop name and its Shop domain.

  1. Click Generate token. A "Token generated" message appears, and the Feed URL field shows up on the card.
  2. Copy the Feed URL and add it in Google Merchant Center as a scheduled fetch for product reviews. Google fetches the feed on its own schedule.

The feed is always current. Each time Google fetches it, it gets your approved reviews as they are at that moment, so new approvals show up on the next fetch with no extra work from you.

Treat the feed URL like a password: anyone who has the link can read your review feed.

Regenerate the token

If the URL was shared with someone who shouldn't have it, or you just want a fresh one:

  1. Click Regenerate token on the shop card. A "Token regenerated" message appears.
  2. Copy the new Feed URL into Google Merchant Center.

The old URL stops working the moment you regenerate, so update Merchant Center right away.

Readiness checks

Each shop card shows a status badge, two counters, and a list of checks.

Status badge

BadgeWhat it means
Needs setupAt least one required check is marked Missing: there is no feed token, no review group is enabled for export, or there are fewer than 50 eligible reviews.
WarningsAll required checks pass, but at least one exported group auto-approves by rating. The feed works; read the warning below.
Ready for XMLAll required checks pass and there are no warnings.

Counters

  • N export groups: how many review groups are enabled for export.
  • N eligible reviews: how many approved reviews with a rating Toki found in your export groups for this shop. Once you pass Google's minimum, the counter shows 50+ eligible reviews.

Checks

Each check carries a badge: OK, Missing, Warning, or Info.

CheckWhat it tells you
Feed tokenOK once you have clicked Generate token. Missing until then.
Export groupsOK with the number of groups enabled for Google export. Missing when no group is enabled.
Eligible reviewsOK when the shop has at least 50 eligible reviews. Missing below that, with the current count so you know how far you are.
Rating-based auto-approvalOK when none of the exported groups auto-approve by rating. Warning when some do.
Product linksInfo when product links in the feed use your public domain. Warning when they fall back to the shop domain shown on the card.

Rating-based auto-approval

With Auto-approve by rating, reviews at or above your minimum rating are approved automatically, and lower-rated reviews are not. Google expects genuine low-rating reviews to be published too, so the page shows a Warning for every exported group that uses this rule: "Make sure valid low-rating reviews are still reviewed and published."

The warning never blocks the feed. It is a reminder to go through pending low-rating reviews and approve the genuine ones. See Review moderation.

Product links

The feed includes a link to each reviewed product's page. Toki builds those links with your Public Domain when it is set. When it is not set, the links use the shop domain shown on the card.

To set your public domain:

  1. In the Toki app, open Settings, then the Merchant tab.
  2. Fill in Public Domain (for example, yourdomain.com).
  3. Click Save in the save bar.

Toki also uses the public domain in other places, such as referral links.

What's in the feed

A review goes into the feed when all of these are true:

  • It is Approved.
  • It has a star rating.
  • It has review text.
  • It belongs to a review group you enabled for export.
  • The product it reviews still exists in your Shopify store.

Each exported review carries:

  • The star rating (1 to 5), the headline, the review text, the pros and cons when the customer filled them in, and the date it was submitted.
  • The reviewer's name: the name on the review, or the customer's name. Reviews with no name are marked as anonymous.
  • Whether the review is linked to an order. Reviews tied to an order are marked as verified purchases collected after the order. Reviews without an order are marked as unsolicited.
  • Whether the review earned a reward. Reviews that earned a reward are marked as incentivized, as Google requires. You don't need to do anything for this.
  • The reviewer's country, when the review has one.
  • The product name, the product page link, and the product's identifiers from Shopify: barcode (GTIN), SKU, and vendor (brand). These identifiers help Google match each review to the right product in your listings, so it pays to keep barcodes and SKUs filled in on your Shopify products.

Reviews you brought over with Import reviews keep their original review ID from your previous platform.
