Buy exclusive products with points
An exclusive product rule can let customers pay for a collection with their loyalty points instead of money. The customer picks a product, its price is converted to points, and the points leave their balance right away. It's a direct way to turn a loyalty balance into something your best customers actually want.
Set a rule to points
- Open Exclusive Products.
- Find the rule you want to change, or click Add New Rule.
- Under Purchase settings, set Purchase With to Points.
- If you run more than one store credit, pick the one that pays for these products in the Points field.
- Choose a Purchasing Strategy.
- Click Save.
Purchase settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Purchase With | Money: customers pay the regular price with money. Points: customers pay with their store credit balance. New rules start on Money. |
| Points | The store credit that pays for products under this rule. This field appears only when you have more than one store credit. With a single store credit, that one is used. |
| Purchasing Strategy | How a points purchase is completed. Draft Order creates a draft order and sends the customer to its checkout page. Checkout (Cart) creates a discount, applies it to the cart, and adds the product to the cart. New rules start on Draft Order. |
| Limit Quantity | Shown for Checkout (Cart) only. Turn it on to cap how many items a customer can add to the cart under this rule. Leave it off for no limit. |
| Maximum Quantity | The cap itself: a whole number of 1 or more. New rules start at 1. |
The quantity cap is enforced in the cart by the Validation Function connected on the Exclusive Product Rules page. A customer who goes over it sees your Quantity limit message.
What the customer pays
The price in points is the product's price multiplied by the store credit's conversion rate. With a rate of 100 points to $1, a $20 product costs 2,000 points. If the customer's segment has its own conversion rate, that rate is used. See Store credits to set rates.
A customer can redeem a product when:
- Their balance covers the full price in points.
- The product is in stock. A variant counts as sold out when its inventory is at zero and Continue selling when out of stock is off for it in your Shopify admin.
- They belong to the rule's Segment, if the rule has one.
When they redeem, the points come off their balance right away. The deduction appears in the member's Recent transactions as Spent on followed by the product name. See Member profile.
What happens after they redeem
Draft Order
Toki creates a draft order for one unit of the product and sends the customer to its checkout page. The product's price is already covered by their points.
Checkout (Cart)
Toki creates a discount for the customer, adds the product to the cart with the discount applied, and sends them to checkout. The discount works once and only for that customer.
If the checkout can't be created, the points return to the customer's balance automatically. The refund appears in Recent transactions as Refunded for followed by the product name.
List the products in the wallet
Customers redeem exclusive products from a Products Redemption block in the wallet. The block shows the products in the rule's collection with their prices in your store credit.
- Open Design.
- Click Edit on the Wallet module.
- Open the blocks list for the screen where the products should appear, for example Home Screen Blocks, and click Add new item.
- Set Block Type to Products Redemption.
- Set Based on to Exclusive Products.
- Pick your rule under Exclusive Product Rule.
- Click Save on the block, then save and publish your design.
For finding modules and working in the editor, see Design modules and Design editor.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Exclusive Product Rule | The rule whose collection is listed. Only rules set to Points can be chosen. Rules are listed by their number on the Exclusive Product Rules page, followed by the collection, the segment (if any), and the purchasing strategy. |
| Items to Show | How many products load at a time (25 to start). In the List layout, customers click Show more to see the rest. In the Carousel layout, this is the total number shown. |
| Block Title and Block Sub Title | The heading and subheading above the list. |
What customers see
- Each product appears once, using its first available variant, with its image, name, price in your store credit, and a Redeem button. The list can include up to 250 products from the collection.
- Products the customer can't redeem right now — sold out, outside the rule's segment, or priced above their balance — keep their place in the list, but the Redeem button is turned off. Hovering over the button shows the reason.
- After redeeming, the button changes to Open, which opens the checkout in a new tab. With Checkout (Cart), the discount code also appears under the product name.
- Products you add to the collection show up in the wallet within about an hour.
