Product groups
Some items exist in your store as several separate products: one per color, size, or bundle. A product group tells Toki to treat them as one when it comes to reviews. Every product in the group shows the combined reviews, review count, and average rating, so shoppers see the full picture on each page instead of a handful of reviews split across listings.
What a product group changes
On the storefront, every product in a group shows the pooled reviews of the whole group:
- the list of reviews
- the total review count
- the average rating
- the rating breakdown (how many 1- to 5-star reviews)
- the review count shown for each review group
Each review stays attached to the product it was written for. In the Toki app, you still see which product a review belongs to. Grouping only changes what shoppers see on product pages.
If AI review summaries are turned on, each product's summary is built from the pooled reviews too. See AI review summaries.
Product groups belong to a review group. If you run more than one review group, set up product groups in each of them.
Open your product groups
- In the Toki app, open Reviews.
- If you have more than one review group, select the group's tab at the top of the page.
- In the review group's Settings card, click Product groups.
The page is titled Product groups for [group name]. Before your first group, it shows Group similar products with a Create product group button. The back arrow takes you back to Reviews.
Create a product group
- Click Create product group.
- Enter a Name.
- Under Products, pick the products that should share reviews. Start typing to search your store's products, then select each one.
- Under Product tags, enter Shopify tags, one per line. Any product that carries one of these tags joins the group automatically.
- Click Save in the bar at the top of the page.
A product group needs at least two products, or at least one product tag. You can combine both: hand-picked products plus tags.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | The label you see on the Product groups page. Required. |
| Products | Products you pick by hand. They share reviews with every other member of the group. |
| Product tags | Shopify tags, one per line. Every product in your store that carries any of these tags is a member of the group. |
Pick products by hand
Hand-picked products are a fixed list. Use this when the related listings are a known set, such as the three colorways of one jacket. Products stay in the order you picked them.
Use product tags
Tags make a group maintain itself. When you add or remove one of the listed tags on a product in Shopify, Toki updates who is in the group and refreshes the reviews shown on the affected product pages. Toki learns about the change from Shopify right away and refreshes those pages within a few minutes. Type each tag exactly as it appears in Shopify, including capitalization.
For example, a group with the tag summer includes every product tagged
"summer" in your store, including products you add and tag next season. If
you enter the same tag on two lines, Toki keeps one.
A product can be in more than one product group within the same review group, for example one you picked by hand and one it joined through a tag. Its page then shows the combined reviews of both groups. Products that belong to only one of those groups keep showing that group's reviews.
Include a product that was deleted from Shopify
When you delete a product from Shopify, its reviews stay in Toki. To keep those reviews pooled with the rest of the group, add the product by its numeric product ID:
- In the Products field, type the product's numeric ID.
- Select Add product ID [number] from the list.
The product shows up in the group by its ID instead of a title. To find the ID, open one of the product's reviews from your reviews list: the Review details window shows the product's ID.
Edit or delete a product group
Each group on the Product groups page shows its name, how many products and tags it has, and a badge for every member: the product's title (or its ID for a product that is no longer in Shopify) and Tag: … for each tag.
- Click Edit to change the name, products, or tags. Then click Save.
- Click Delete to remove the group. Toki asks Delete product group? and reminds you that products in this group will stop sharing reviews with each other. Click Delete to confirm.
After you save or delete a group, Toki refreshes the reviews shown on every product page the change affects.
