Cashback customers spend like cash
Pay back a share of every order, let customers spend it at checkout or at the register, and stay in control of what every point is worth.
Included on every plan, including Free →Points programs ask customers to do math: what's 2,450 points worth, and is it enough for anything? Cashback skips the question. "5% back on every order, spend it like cash" is a value story anyone understands at a glance — and in Toki it's the same engine as points, so you keep every lever a points program gives you.
A cashback rate per $1 spent
Cashback in Toki is a purchase reward set to based on spend: customers earn a set number of points for every unit of currency they spend, calculated on the order total or the subtotal. Pick the rate that fits your margins, then go further:
- A rate per tier — Silver earns 3%, Gold earns 5%, set on the same purchase reward
- Better rates for a segment — a conversion rule that makes a VIP segment's points worth more
- Cashback as a membership perk — paid memberships can credit cashback on what members spend at each renewal
- Show it in money — display balances as points, as currency, or both ("200 Points ($2 USD)")
How much to give back is the real question; our guide to how much cashback a loyalty program should offer walks through it, and the best cashback programs show what the big retailers settle on.
Spend it like cash
Credit only works if spending it is effortless. Customers redeem their balance on:
- Shopify store credit — credit on their Shopify store credit balance, used at checkout in the currencies your store accepts
- Discounts, free products and free shipping — set what each option costs
- Payouts and gift cards — through the Tremendous integration, a balance can become a payout such as PayPal, or a gift card
They spend it in the wallet on your store, in checkout, on customer account pages and at the register, where staff redeem from the Toki tile in Shopify POS. GardenCup's members redeem at a 67.3% rate — rewards that get used, not hoarded.
You decide what a point is worth
Every store credit has a conversion rate: how many credits equal one unit of your currency. It applies everywhere at once — earning, redeeming, balance displays and analytics. Change it later and nobody's balance changes; what changes is what the balance is worth, so you can tune the program without touching a single account.
Need more than one balance? Run several store credits side by side, each with its own name, formatting and rate:
- Purchase points plus referral credit — two balances customers can tell apart
- Brand-specific credits — one per brand under a single umbrella program
- Promotional credit — expires on its own schedule, separate from earned points
The wallet and wallet passes show every balance, customers pick which one to spend, and staff can redeem from any of them at Shopify POS.
Model it before you launch
Cashback is a promise on every order, so price it first. The loyalty program pricing calculator estimates what a given rate costs at your order volume and margin. Then build it on top of points and VIP tiers, so your best customers earn the best rate.

Frequently asked questions
How does cashback work in Toki?
Give your purchase activity a 'based on spend' reward: customers earn points for every unit of currency they spend. At 5 points per $1 and a conversion rate of 100 points = $1, that's 5% cashback. You can calculate it on the order subtotal instead of the total.
Can customers spend cashback as Shopify store credit?
Yes. The Shopify Store Credit redemption option turns points into credit on the customer's Shopify store credit balance, which they use at checkout in any currency your store accepts. They can also spend points on discounts, free products or free shipping.
Can different customers earn different rates?
Yes, two ways. Give each membership tier its own cashback rate on the purchase reward, and add conversion rules for segments — for example 100 points = $1 for everyone, 80 points = $1 for your VIP segment, which makes their points 25% more valuable.
Can I run more than one balance?
Yes. Each store credit has its own name, display format and conversion rate — for example purchase points plus a separate referral credit, or promotional credit that expires on its own schedule. The wallet, wallet passes and Shopify POS show and spend each one.
Is cashback included on the free plan?
Yes. Earning points, store credit or cashback is part of the Free plan, which covers up to 1,000 orders a month.
